Dr. Yvonne Elizabeth Maldonado was born and raised in El Paso, Texas. Her parents wanted to make sure she was fluent in Spanish so at the age of two and a half they sent her to study at Montessori in Juarez, Mexico. Every day Don Pancho would pick up the American kids from El Paso and transport them to and from Juarez in the medium sized school bus.
The importance of education was instilled in her at a young age. Dr. Maldonado played the piano from the age of 5 and all through high school. Music theory and piano were also engrained in her.
She graduated from Eastwood High School where she was freshman and senior class President, a Trooperette, Cheerleader, played the cello freshman year, in Drama Club, and was asked to serve as the alternate at the High Q national competition.
She was honored to receive the prestigious Trooper award at graduation given to only to 5 female and 5 male “all around students.”
She attended St. Mary’s University in San Antonio, Texas and graduated with a degree in Biology with a minor in Chemistry. She was a Senior Senator and one of the founders of Delta Zeta Sorority.
She attended the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston, Texas where she received her Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree. While in dental school she served as president of her first year dental class.
After graduation from dental school, Dr. Maldonado joined the National Health Service Corps and served for 4 years providing dental services at La Clínica de Familia in the underserved community of Sunland Park, New Mexico.
She then worked for the City of El Paso Health and Environmental District treating pediatric dental patients and at Briggs and Fosbury, as an associate of the pediatric dental office.
In 2008, she opened her dental practice, The Dental Ark, PLLC with Dr. Nanni Baker. In 2015 she opened a second office with Dr. Nanni Baker called Stevenson’s Dental Ark.
Dr. Maldonado is active in professional and civic work. She received the YWCA Recognized Achievement (REACH) Award in 1998, selected in the professional category and nominated by the El Paso District Dental Society.
She also has served on numerous committees of the El Paso District Dental Society such as Peer Review, Board of Directors, Delegate to the Texas Dental Association, and was the first female to serve as the President of the EPDDS.
She is the mother of 3 children and wife of José Luis González. She is active in her church and enjoys volunteering with Casas por Cristo, a local organization that spreads the Word of God by building homes for the most vulnerable citizens around Latin America including her border town of Juarez, Mexico. She enjoys traveling with her family and spending time with her husband and children.

She currently serves in the American Dental Association’s Council on Dental Benefit Programs and is the ADA’s Member Representative on the Dental Quality Alliance. Her terms on both the CDBP and DQA expire at the end of 2021.
She currently serves as a Consultant to the Council on Public Health and Access for the Texas Dental Association. She has served on the TDA Board of Directors and as a Vice President of TDA.
